I’ve been thinking about the smile on Jack Layton’s face during his post-election speech in May. That was the first time he brought tears to my eyes, and unfortunately the second was this morning while I read the terrible news over breakfast.

I’m so sad.

I’ve been rooting for him for years. It was wonderful to have those few months of hope and pride for our country when browsing online news leading up to and following his opposition win.

That I felt such admiration and respect for a politician is nearly unthinkable. His charisma and determination are unmatched, and he will be sorely missed.
